I have been a MLM Distributor for two different Network Marketing Companies. Neither Network Marketing Company required retail receipts when I signed up, but both companies changed their policy after I joined. The reason sited for both Network Marketing Companies adding the monthly retail receipt requirement was they felt it necessary to be in compliance with the Federal Government regulations regarding Network Marketing. One MLM Company required 5 retail receipts and the other required 3 receipts.
Both companies said requiring the retail activity for its MLM Company gave validation as a legitimate company rather than a possible Ponzi because providing retail receipts proved the distributor was not building it once and then retiring to live on the fruits of his labor. They actually said that the receipts proved the MLM Distributors were working. Why do you think MLM's have been an attractive option for people looking for a business opportunity? One of the main reasons is because after they build their business deep and strong, they would like to retire in Figi, sitting on the beach, sipping a cool lemonade. People are looking for a retirement vehicle. Is it possible to retire when your Network Marketing Company makes you prove you've been working? If Network Marketing Companies are practicing illegal activities, what about these businesses who have been paying out royalty fees for generations? What about the music, movie, oil and publishing royalties? Would they qualify as Ponzi schemes? A musician, author and actor are paid over and over again for something they only physically worked on one time. An oil company only has to strike oil once to extract it and pay the owner of the mineral rights for every barrel pumped. Oh my gosh! How brilliant you say? I can't claim that one. The credit goes an MLM Distributor I know. When my friend questioned two MLM lawyers with that question, they quickly excused themselves with no answers.
Looking at this logically, it seems to me that the Network Marketing Companies were the ones responsible for making the MLM distributor keep in receipts. I was right as I found out later, but if they could have one more hoop for the MLM Distributor to jump through, there might be a lot of people who could not get the required customer purchases that month. The Network Marketing Company would get to keep pure profit with no effort or cost on their part! Is this what the Network Marketing Company is really trying to accomplish? It makes me wonder!
